FlyBe has recruited a new CIO from travel industry giants Thomas Cook. Peter Hauptvogel has been confirmed as the new CIO of FlyBe and will join the European regional airline on March 1.
FlyBe, headquartered in Exeter Devon, said in a statement to Horizon that Hauptvogel will be leading IT and has been recruited to “play a critical role in building an IT platform and digital strategy to support Flybe’s long term success.”
Flybe operates 215 routes across 10 countries in Europe flying from 37 airports in the United Kingdom and is the largest domestic flights operator flying above the UK. It operates code share agreements with international airlines including BA, Air France, Etihad, Finnair, Aer Lingus, Cathay Pacific, Emirates, Virgin Atlantic, Air India, Air Berlin and Singapore Airlines.
Hauptvogel is a veteran of the airline industry, he is currently IT Director for the Thomas Cook Group Airline that serves the package holiday market and before that he was CIO with low cost challenger airline Air Berlin.
In taking the role Hauptvogel joins the FlyBe Executive Committee and will report to the airline’s CEO Christine Ourmieres-Widener.
Hauptvogel is the latest travel industry CIO to gain a new role, in recent weeks Aiden Barr, a former CIO with Thomas Cook rivals TUI has joined rail and bus mass transport operator Abellio as CIO.
Recently FlyBe has been expanding its routes into Germany opening new routes and code shares into Dusseldorf from Cardiff airport following new routes from the Channel Islands to the industrial German city.
