Leading healthcare CIO Cindy Fedell will describe to peers at the second Innovation Leadership Summit the importance of developing communities to achieve major change.
Fedell is CIO for the Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The trust serves 500,000 people and says it provides further services to 1.1 million. Maternity through to elderly care via intensive and children’s care are provided and there is a strong research arm to the hospital in areas such as eye care, hip fractures and dementia. As a teaching hospital Bradford has simulation centres for the teaching anaesthetics, emergency, obstetrics and theatre where close to real scenarios are taught.
“My role here is more and more about the transformation and how can technology make a service and a patient better, or a clinician’s job easier. So my official job title is Director of Informatics and IT,” Canadian Fedell said of her role.
Fedell has a strong focus on collaborative working, both within the organisation working with the Clinical Chief Information Officer (CCIO) and beyond the imposing trust headquarters and hospital high above Bradford city centre in Yorkshire. The CIO is working with fellow Yorkshire trust Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust in the implementation of an electronic patient record (EPR) programme as well as leading an association looking at how digital health can be adopted and used to benefit the local community.
The Innovation Leadership Summit is in its second year and is curated and hosted by CIO community editor Mark Chillingworth who says the event is a forum for bringing innovation leaders together that helps CIOs move into a position of innovation enablement in their organisations. In its first year the Innovation Leadership Summit became the largest gathering of CIOs in the UK.
The 2017 Innovation Leadership Summit will take place on September 13, 2017 at Kings Place, Kings Cross, London. The venue, facing Google’s new UK home, will host CIOs from financial and professional services, the NHS, industry, charity, media and energy. The event is a full day conference in half a day, giving CIOs their afternoon back to keep on top of their demanding roles.
