FTSE 100 catering services firm Compass Group has recruited Craig Charlton as its Group CIO. Charlton joins the Surrey headquartered business from engineering business and Formula One team McLaren.
Charlton spent just over two and half years with the McLaren Technology Group at its Woking headquarters. During his career with the McLaren Charlton brought in new deals with major technology service providers such as Wipro. McLaren Technology Group builds high end luxury sports cars, is an engineering supplier as well as the world famous Formula One team that can claim to have given wins to Ayrton Senna, Alain Prost, Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button and Niki Lauda.
Compass Group is best known for its catering services, but it also a major provider of facilities management and has security operations.
Just yesterday the PLC said organic revenue grew by 5.9% as a result of business wins and retaining existing clients. During 2017 Compass Group acquired US based Unidine for £265 million.
Charlton has experience of mining and sport. Prior to joining McLaren he was CIO for the diamond mining organisation De Beers where he brought together the technology operations of the global business into a central operation from a federated model. He joined De Beers from their parent company Anglo American the mining giant where Charlton had a six year career and three major global business technology leadership roles.
He began his technology leadership career with fast moving consumer goods firm P&G, the global business has been the launchpad for a number of CIO careers.
