Paul Caris appointed CIO of Collinson Group

paul carisCollinson Group, the provider of financial services and business loyalty programmes has appointed Paul Caris as CIO, it has been confirmed to the Horizon CIO podcast. The most widely known product from Collinson Group is Columbus Insurance.

London headquartered Collinson Group employs 2000 people across 25 global locations and counts American Express, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Eurostar, Hilton, InterContinental Hotels Group, MasterCard and rivals Visa as customers.

Technology plays a major part in the services and relationships Collinson Group has with its clients. In December 2017 its new loyalty programme contract with Eurostar includes a data strategy to integrate with the Eurostar technology and the business supports the Traveltech startup incubator.

Caris has spent the last year as interim CIO with the Metropolitan housing association. The CIO has had a varied career, spending five years with major law firm Eversheds as CIO between 2009 and 2014. He joined Eversheds from house builders Taylor Wimpey where he spent two years as CIO having moved from the Taylor Woodrow construction business where he ran business change as well as risk and audit in a career from 2002 to 2007.  Caris also has business technology experience in retail with GUS, consumer banking with Santander UK as well as the media with UBM.

As well as his stints as a permanent CIO, Carris has also held interim roles, acting as CTO for Host Group the cloud and software-as-a-service (SaaS) provider and some vendor side experience with Leading Resolutions, the Wiltshire based consultancy.

3G2A4093Caris takes over the technology helm at Collinson Group from Chris Lord, who joined Babcock International Group as CTO in January 2018. Babcock International Group is a global infrastructure services business, FTSE listed and counts the Ministry of Defence and Network Rail as key clients. Lord was a recent speaker at the Horizon Podcast CIO conference, the Innovation Leadership Summit. His presentation on Conway’s Law is available as a podcast.

Former Daily Mail Group (DMG) CIO Steve Homan was also recently with Collinson Group. Homan, joined the Horizon CIO podcast in November 2017 to discuss digital transformation.  At Collinson Group Homan was Digital Transformation Director having been CIO for DMG for nearly four years.

As Digital Transformation Director Homan worked in the Collinson Group airport lounge business, which is one of the largest areas of business.

Homan told the Horizon CIO podcast that the customer journey is key to digital transformation: “Customer engagement is the veneer, the core of it is: Are we creating core sustainable new business capacity in our business and are we doing that in a way that creates differentiation and future proofing?”
