Oil and gas services organisation Petrofac has recruited CIO Allan Cockriel from engineering giants GE.
The FTSE 250 business, headquartered in London operates in the key oil and gas producing areas of Aberdeen here Saudi Arabia and Malaysia. Petrofac operates in three divisions: Engineering & Construction; Engineering and Production Services and Integrated Energy Services.
In a statement Petrofac says Cockriel will be driving the company’s digital transformation. Cockriel said in the statement that a focus on digital culture is “vital to maintaining a competitive edge in today’s industrial landscape”.
“We want to unlock the full potential of digital solutions for ourselves and our clients, and are doing this through continued investment in our digital agenda to deliver data insights, identify innovative ways of working, and find new opportunities; with the best forms of digital defence to protect what we are achieving,” Cockriel said.
Cockriel’s appointment follows the promotion of Dave Jones in February 2018 to CIO of Altrad, the French business that acquired Cape plc. Cape, like Petrofac is a major service provider to the oil and gas sector.
Cockriel has had a long career with GE. He joined the US giant in 2004 and over the last 14 years in a wide range of leadership positions. His first role was a focus on information management for two years before moving into an audit role for four years and then into senior management in the finance department. In July 2010 Cockriel took on a technology leadership role Operations Leader for the Shared Services arm of GE which provided key technologies across the myriad business units of GE. His shared services career led him into the oil and gas sector with GE in 2011 and he became CIO for the Subsea Productions Systems area of GE Oil and Gas in 2012. Since 2016 Cockriel has been CIO for GE Power/Alstom Global Parts Fulfilment IT organisation, as well as its Global Sales and Operational Planning function.
Petrofac highlights Cockriel’s experience in international IT leadership, global restructuring and business transformation, senior operations management, emerging markets’ growth and Joint Ventures, and IT finance across several multi-billion dollar businesses in multiple geographies.
Cockriel also has experience at Ecolab and the famed innovative firm 3M.
